The Completion of Shinjuku Mitsukoshi 新宿三越落成
This poster is created for celebrate and advertise the opening of Mitsukoshi Department Store in Shinjuku. Designed by Hisui Sugiura, with lithograph technique. Shinjuku Mitsukoshi opened on October 10, 1930 (Showa 5). Building had 8 floors above ground and 3 floors underground. Later in 2007, Mitsukoshi merged with Isetan and was renamed “Shinjuku Mitsukoshi ALCOTT (Alcott),” and the store closed in 2012.
The poster depicts the new department store from a bird’s-eye perspective, with crowds of people lining up in front of the newly built Mitsukoshi shopping mall. By using the colour of orange, yellow and blue, it captures an evening scene of the department. In the top left corner, it reads: The Completion of Shinjuku Mitsukoshi (新宿三越落成), with a note below indicating that the store will open on October 10th.
